About BLD

Formed in 1974 by the fusion of several anti-Indira Gandhi parties under Charan Singh. Its real significance: the 1977 Lok Sabha landslide that ended Congress's first-ever national defeat was fought largely under BLD's ballot symbol, before it completed a formal merger into the new Janata Party — alongside the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Congress(O) — later that year.
