About Ganatantra Parishad

Formed by former rulers of Odisha's princely states and large landlords, evolving from the Koshal Utkal Praja Parishad (1948) into a full party in 1950 under Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo. After Odisha's minority Congress government fell, Ganatantra Parishad formed a coalition government with the Congress in May 1959. The party merged into the Odisha unit of the Swatantra Party in 1962; Singh Deo later became Chief Minister of Odisha (1967–1971) leading Swatantra.
