About HVP

Founded in 1996 when Bansi Lal split from the INC; his campaign against prohibition drove the party to a plurality in the 1996 Haryana Assembly election, and he formed a minority government as Chief Minister for a third time, as part of the NDA. The party collapsed afterward and merged back into the INC in October 2004.
