About Congress (U)
Formed in July 1979 when D. Devaraj Urs, then sitting Chief Minister of Karnataka, broke from Indira Gandhi's Congress(I) — citing the return of Sanjay Gandhi to the party's inner circle — and continued governing Karnataka under the new banner until 1980. Took a number of legislators and future ministers and chief ministers with him from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa.
