About MNF
Grew out of the Mizo National Famine Front, formed in 1960 by Laldenga in protest at the government's response to a famine, and converted into the Mizo National Front in 1961. Led a 20-year armed insurgency for Mizo independence from 1966 until the 1986 peace accord that created the state of Mizoram. Laldenga became Mizoram's first Chief Minister in 1987 but was removed within 19 months. Under Zoramthanga the party returned to power twice, 1998–2008 and 2018–2023, losing the 2023 election to the ZPM.
