About MPC
Founded on 17 April 1975 by Brig. Thenphunga Sailo, a former army officer. Won the 1978 Mizoram Union Territory assembly election, with Sailo serving as Chief Minister for six months before President's Rule was imposed; won again in 1979 and Sailo served a full term as Chief Minister until 1984. Remained the main opposition for two decades after, and declined further after Sailo's death in 2015.
