About NPP

Founded in January 2013 by P. A. Sangma after his expulsion from the Nationalist Congress Party, built around tribal rights and regional autonomy. Sangma died in 2016 and his son Conrad K. Sangma took over the party; Conrad became Meghalaya's Chief Minister in March 2018 and has led the state, and NPP-headed coalitions in other northeastern states, since — the party gained national-party status in 2019.
