About INLD

Founded by former deputy prime minister Devi Lal in October 1996 as the Haryana Lok Dal (Rashtriya), renamed the Indian National Lok Dal in 1998. Devi Lal's son Om Prakash Chautala led INLD to a full term as Haryana's Chief Minister from 1999 to 2005. The party has been out of power in Haryana since 2005 and has since split, with the Chautala family's Jannayak Janta Party emerging as a rival offshoot.
