About PSP
Formed in 1952 by the merger of the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party and the Socialist Party, uniting India's non-communist left opposition to Congress in the 1950s. PSP never led a state government on its own, but its legislators took ministerial posts in coalition governments, including the north Indian coalition governments formed after 1967. It reunified with the breakaway Samyukta Socialist Party in 1971.
