About SSP

Split from the Praja Socialist Party in 1964 under Ram Manohar Lohia, taking a harder anti-Congress socialist line. Like the PSP, it never won a state on its own but was a coalition partner in several state governments formed after the 1967 elections. It reunified with the PSP in 1971.
